Over 50% of screened Toronto rental applications found fraudulent

Tenant application fraud has become alarmingly common in hot markets. Menkes Developments (a major property manager) reported that in a recent 6-month period, it screened 175 rental applicants and over 90 were disqualified for fraud or “discrepancies”​. That’s more than 50% failing due to fake or doctored credentials. Common red flags include phony ID cards, fabricated credit scores, and forged employment letters or pay stubs​. Other landlords and realtors have noted a surge in applicants lying about….
